Garnish Bazaar

Who can forget when Garnish first opened its doors and Indian food lovers’ dreams finally came true in piping hot plates of bright green mutton saagwala, butter chicken and Rogan josh?

Since then the friendly family eatery has expanded to Klein Windhoek and to Swakopmund with the original establishment on Trift Street getting a little lost in the takeover.

To celebrate the first, distinguish it from the second and keep Windhoek’s foodie’s on their toes, Garnish presents Garnish Bazaar. A newly revamped Indo-fusion restaurant at Trift Towers.

Boasting the same spot, a new menu and waiters like Denver Chagweda and Florida Goases, both smiling, willing and eager to show you what Garnish’s got, Garnish Bazaar has minimalized the decor, added some solo seats and turned up the heat.

“We offer Chinese, Italian and Continental dishes with an Indian twist,” says Chagweda who alongside Goases offers some excellent recommendations on their new Thali street food menu.

Artfully plated and completely delicious, my order of chicken tikka, lamb samosa and Sev Puri, crispy savoury biscuits topped with onions, tomato yoghurt and chutney, is out in two shakes alongside my selection from their new cocktail menu. A flavourful Jaipur Blush which is no less than a blend of vodka, Pernod, Cardamom, Rose, cranberry juice and lime on offer alongside amorously named drinks like a Delhi Crush and a Mumbai Lover.

With the goal of fusing cuisines from all over the world with the wealth of Indian flavour, Garnish Bazaar intrigues in chicken tikka pizza, a spice lamb burger, Gobi tikka burritos and masala pasta.

Spicing up everyone’s faves while offering morsels of what one can invariably eat whilst ambling down a bustling New Delhi street, Garnish Bazaar’s dessert pickings are just as exciting.

From my personal favourite Cardamom kulfi, a traditional Indian ice cream, to India’s answer to the koeksister, the humble jalebi, the eatery is all imagination. Try out their chocolate samosas and chai latte ice cream and be sure to take a peek at their Indo-Chinese wonton soup, fried rice and spring rolls.

Fusion, fantastic and an inspired reinvention, Garnish Bazaar is something wonderfully different. A familiar yet sweet new spot from which to watch Windhoek’s sunset in the west with a taste of the East.
